JU : Nirmal Singh's scholars being harassed | | | Avinash Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 31: The University of Jammu has changed internal examiner with consulting supervisor and scholars. Sources said that the JU has changed the internal examiner of the two research scholars namely Chandarkanta and Neeraj Jandyal who had submitted their thesis under the supervision of Dr. Nirmal Singh former Deputy Chief Minister. "What a joke it is that without taking the consent of the scholars and the actual supervisor, the higher authorities (vice-chancellor) has arbitrarily used rather misused his power as it is against the UGC rules and might be first case in all the universities of India governed by the UGC rules", sources said, adding that as per the UGC rules only the actual supervisor, in this case Dr. Nirmal Singh can act as the internal examiner as he has done all the duties that a supervisor is supposed to do in order to help the scholar in completing his or her research work. "Neither the scholar nor their supervisor agrees with the decision as both are comfortable and willing to carry out the further process that is the viva-voce which is the only step left behind in the completion of their research", sources claimed. They further said that now the question arises why the supervisor has been changed if 1987 resolution is under stay by High court. "There is no transparency and never the consent of the scholar is taken before taking any serious decision regarding their research which may prove a major distraction in the way of their research work and the university authorities take them for granted as if they (scholars) are bond man and make their decision and obligation to b followed whether the scholars agree or disagree", sources said. Terming the decision arbitrary, sources said that it shows that university authorities are least bothered about the decision of the high court and trying to show their supremacy and autonomy which is baseless if it comes to the future of so many scholars. University cannot work in isolation. |
