Students, political parties take out protest rallies over NIT issue

Jammu, Apr 7: Various student and political organizations today took out massive protest rallies across Jammu over NIT Srinagar issue where few days ago non-local students were beaten up by police and the local Kashmiri students.
Activist of National Students Union of India (NSUI) along with hundreds of students took out rally march from Jammu university to Jewel Chowk against BJP-PDP Government. Protestors were raising slogan against PDP-BJP Government. The protest was led by Neeraj Kundan State President, Nasib Ali, Avijot Singh, Ajay Kumar, Sunny Prihar, Arif Choudhary and many others. Addressing the students Neeraj Kundan said that today BJP and ABVP are exposed all over in the country wherever BJP Government is standing against the students and harassing them such as in Rohit Vemula Case in Central University of Hyderabad, FTII students, JNU students, their ABVP is coming forward to save BJP rather than addressing student issues same such as is happening in J&k where NIT students were brutal lathi charge by state Govt of BJP & PDP.
Meanwhile activists of National Panther Student Union took out protest march and blocked Tawi Bridge for more than two and half hours in support of Jammu Bandh. The activists of NPSU boycotted the classes of Jammu University and protest took in the shape of rally and the move towards Bikram Chowk Jammu. Hundreds of NPSU activists raised slogans 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' 'Vande MatAram', ‘Nahin Chalegi-Nahin Chalegi Tanashai Nahin Chalegi’, ‘BJP-PDP Hai Hai’, ‘Pakistan Tere Tukre Honge Inshallah Inshallah’. Addressing gathering Thakur Virender Singh State President NPSU condemned the state government for pathetic plight of pro-India students of NIT Srinagar who were being assaulted, abused, manhandled not only by the anti-national elements but even were being threatened by local administration and faculty members.
Scores of youth Congress activists along with students of Degree College Hiranagar staged the protest and blocked National Highway NH 1A to show their anger and resentment against the police action on non-local students of NIT and criticized the BJP government for its failure to provide the security to students.
The protest was organized under the leadership of Anirudh Khajuria Vice president AYC Billawar. While addressing the gathering he said taht it gives immense pain and shock on seeing the scenario going on in NIT Srinagar where peaceful students were beaten mercilessly on just hoisting the national Flag of India. He further said that use of force was a clear move on part of state government to suppress the voice of innocent peaceful students and even criticized Dy CM Dr. Nirmal Singh for giving an irresponsible statement that it was a mild lathicharge.
Thousands of activists of Pahari Vikas Committee Bani under the leadership of chief patron PVC Rakesh Thakur, advocate held demonstration at Bani against the failure of state government in protecting the non-local students of NIT Srinagar. Protesters denounced the police action and demanded that the guilty should be identified and strict action should be initiated against them. Later, hundreds of students of Government Degree College Bani and Government Higher Secondary School Bani boycotted their classes and held demonstration under the leadership of GDC student union Bani Jugal Kishore to lodge protest against the ruthless use of force against the students.
All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) today staged a massive protest demonstration and blocked the road along with Jammu organizations against the brutalities of the Kashmir police who beat up the nationalist students for hoisting national tri-colour and clashing with the anti-national elements of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. The protestors demanded CBI probe and suspension of SSP and DC Srinagar besides immediate action against the police men and officers involved and foolproof security for the outsider students in NIT. The protestors were led by its Chairman Vinod Pandit who denounced the local administration for letting the situation go out of control in the NIT campus and alleged that students were targetted for hoisting national flag after some separatist elements raised anti-India slogans in the campus after T20 match recently.
SKUAST - Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) and students strongly condemned the incident of attacks on non-Kashmiri NIT students and brutal lathicharge on them by J&K police and demanded that a new government should ensure the safety and security of students at any cost. In a press statement, SKUAST-TAJ President, Dr. Vikas Sharma alleged that government has failed to ensure the safety of non- local students and its repercussions can have dangerous ramifications. He described it as a conspiracy to create wedge in the society and warned such elements not to play with the future of nation. Dr. Vivek M Arya, General Secretary said that after Hydrabad and JNU-Delhi this unfortunate incident has taken place in our State as some people were playing dirty politics in the educational institutions and he demanded a time bound probe into the whole matter by the sitting High Court judge.
ABVP Poonch unit protested against the lathicharge in NIT. Speaking on the occasion ABVP City president Amit Gupta said that the Government should take a stern action against the police officials who did that brutal act. He also demanded that the security of the students must be tightened as they are getting threats from the locals and the college staff. On this occasion Nishu Gupta also raised the voice of poor students who are mercilessly hit by the lathis.
To lodge protest against ruthless use of force on non-Kashmiri students of NIT in Kashmir valley on Tuesday, hundreds of activists of Team Jammu, under the leadership of its chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, today held massive demonstration against failure of the government to protect lives of the students.
Chairman of the SOS International, Rajiv Chunni and president of Pradesh Vishwakarma Sabha, Shashi Verma were also present on the occasion along with their supporters.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal regretted that within 24 hours of the taking over of the coalition government, in which self-proclaimed nationalist BJP is also a partner, J&K Police unleashed a reign of terror on NIT students who dared to raise national flag in the campus. Jamwal further regretted that over 100 students were injured in the brutal use of force by the J&K police on students but Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh has termed the incident as "mild-lathi-charge" by the police. He said that after becoming part of the power, BJP leadership has maintained a criminal silence on all issues.
Provincial Vice President National Conference Jammu Gurdeep Singh Sasan on Thursday criticised the anti-people policies of PDP-BJP government, saying the dispensation in its earlier 10-month tenure ignored weaker sections and minorities in particular. Interacting with various deputations, Sasan expressed anguish over denial of package to PoK Refugees and grant of minority status to Sikh community.
