Parents of specially abled children flay Pvt schools | Accuse them of extortion in the name of fee | | Majid Nabi
Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 4: The parents of specially abled children Wednesday accused the valley based private schools of taking undue advantages of their wards 'irregular nature' by demanding hefty sums to get their admission done. The visibly disheartened parents alleged that private schools besides demanding rupees one lakh admission fee ask them to contribute in monthly salary of teachers who will be taking classes of their wards. "I have been roaming form pillar to post to get my seven years old son's admission done, my son should be in 4th standard as far as his age is concerned, however the covetousness of so-called nation builders shattered my dreams when I was asked to pay rupees one lakh for his admission," Bashir Ahmad Teli an aggrieved parent told 'Early Times'. He alleged that when he met the head of one of the prestigious schools he was crestfallen when asked to pay rupees one lakh admission fee and ten percent of salary for teacher on monthly basis. "This is sheer blackmailing, if my abnormal son is not able to sit in the classroom with normal children then the schools authorities should have categorically refused my request, but they asked me to pay rupees one lakh and ten percent of salary for teacher," he added. He said that the government should immediately take serious note of private schools open loot and announce reservation for specially abled children in private schools. When this correspondent contacted Director Education, Dr Shah Faisal and apprised him about the issue he without giving any satisfactory answer dropped the call and instantly switched off his mobile phone. "Government has categorically asked to ensure admission of partially abnormal children in any prestigious school however the directive has been floated by private schools. I too want my son to be educated no doubt he is abnormal but he is my son," said Teli amid sobs. Dr Rihana another parent while criticizing alleged silence of the government over private schools hypocritical approach said "if the government really wants change on ground then such issues should be taken seriously, I am a doctor and I could afford rupees one lakh admission fee but what about those whose earnings are meager" She said that she rebuked the principal of one of the reputed schools situated on the city outskirts when asked to pay rupees 1.5 lakh admission fee. "This is disgusting, I prefer my daughter to be illiterate than to admit in such a school where people with selfish nature take advantage of people of being ill-fated," said Dr Rihana. |
