GHS Hyderpora Headmaster locks horns with Div Com Kashmir over roll of school | Says Govt teachers 'demeaned', 'belittled' | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 5: The School Education department today locked horns with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon over the roll of a government school located in a posh locality of summer capital of the state. Dr. Samoon had on Wednesday during a function said that there are 60 teachers for 50 students at Government High School Hyderpora. He had also said that spouses of influential people are working in city schools while as very few teachers are ready to discharge their services in the rural and far-flung areas. Today Shahzada Shah, Headmaster, Government Girls High School Hyderpora while reacting to the news report said it is extremely unfortunate that the school has been presented in such a bad light when the teachers are doing all out efforts to bring a turn-around in the education sector. She said the roll of the school stands at 202 students and not 50 students as said by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. "Fact of the matter is that three schools namely GHS Hyderpora, BHS Hyderpora and GHS Barzalla were merged last year and located in GHS Hyderpora due to which the collective staff strength of the school rose to 46. At the same time due to hard work of teachers there was a dramatic rise in enrolment which presently stands at 202 students," the Headmaster said. Shahzada said the belittling comment that teachers are 'busy in knitting sweaters' is not only unjust but demeaning as well, as it is the same school where CM's Super 50 coaching was born. "It's the same school which became the epicenter of a new movement in education that saw 45 selections in IIT/JEE and 5 in AMU recently," she said. The Headmaster said that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir is 'humbly' requested to visit the school as he has never done that before so that he can for himself appreciate the change on the ground that the education department according to her has been so proudly and rightly talking about. "Commenting about the school without knowing the facts has the potential not only to demoralize the whole team of teachers and students but also create misconceptions about the department which is not desirable," said Shahzada. It would be in place to mention here that the school education department has been in the news with fingers being pointed over the success of the Super-50 coaching classes started by the department at many places in the state. There are reports that the 'experiment' was a failure with students lamenting over the quality of education imparted there. |
