Sitting MLA ‘humiliated’ at DEMU trains function | | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, May 5: In a rare case, the Northern Railway on Thursday honoured a defeated candidate by reserving the 'Guest of Honour' seat for him in a function held to inaugurate the two DEMU trains at Anantnag railway station. However, the local MLA Abdul Majeed Larmi, who belongs to National Conference, was 'humiliated' as his name didn't figure in the government newspaper advertisements. The NC legislator from Homshalibugh assembly segment left the function in protest after PDP workers hooted at home. Larmi along MLA Pahalgm Altaf AhmadKaloo and MLA Devsar Mohammad Amin Bhat had already decided to boycott the function after newspaper advertisements and invitation cards mentioned the PDP General Secretary and Chief Minister's maternal uncle, Sartaj Madni as 'Guest of Honor'. However, they attended the function on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's invention, but the irresponsible behavior of PDP workers spoiled her efforts. "Once they (NC legislators) decided to boycott the function, Chief Minister's envoy made them agree to attend the function but once the announcer announced the names of NC and Congress legislators, PDP workers restored to hooting following which NC legislators left the function," eyewitness said. They said that action of her workers irked the Chief Minister, who later clapped hard after the name of NC legislator Altaf Ahmad Kaloo was announced. While the PWD Minister Abdul RehmanVeeri roared the workers and signaled them to stop, others including Muzaffer Hussain Beg turned silent. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too reacted on twitter and accused PDP-BJP of denigrating the institution of elected representatives. "What a pity that the BJP and PDP conspired to denigrate the institution of elected representatives," tech savvy Omar wrote on twitter and addressed it to Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. In another tweet, he said, "I remember Mufti Shab being given a seat on the dias with Dr Manmohan Singh & Mrs Gandhi during my term even it wasn't his area." |
