'Honourable, dignified return of KPs a cruel joke' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 5: The callousness of the successive State as well as Union government towards the exiled people from the Valley since the day one of the mass exodus in 1989 has compounded the problems of these hapless people leading a refugees' life in Jammu and outside the State for last 27 years now. According to sources the rigid approach of both Union as well as State governments and lack of will on their part to rehabilitate them with honour and dignity in their homeland has been cause of concern among these peace loving people who belong to one of the ancient civilizations of the country. Though every Union and State government declared that "the return and rehabilitation of displaced Pandits is top on its agenda'' and Kashmir is incomplete without Pandits'' but this all turned out to be a phrase as well as a cruel joke only as no government showed any sincerity in this regard is a general feeling among the members of the community today. "The community is facing the threat of extinction If this policy continues for future too'', says Ramesh Mattoo a KP youth working in a factory in Punjab. "We have lost every thing. Our houses were damaged or razed to ground or in some cases collapsed due to heavy rains and snow fall of winters as they could not be maintained properly'', he said, adding the land was either encroached and trees cut by the forces inimical to existence of composite culture in Valley or in majority of cases the displaced people for making their both ends meet in exile had to sell it on throw away prices. The callousness of the successive governments increased to such an extent that no one took a keen interest on return of the community to Valley and instead exploited them for their own political advantage. Whether these are national parties like BJP or Congress as well as regional parties like NC or PDP except a lip sympathy no one was serious or sincere in settling the issue of these hapless people who were forced to flee from Valley on gun point. Political parties especially those in opposition all over country are nowadays protesting against the NIT issue and the treatment meted out to these students in Valley who face total threat there however have failed to raise the issue of the displaced Pandits who were the indigenous people of Kashmir and who belonged to over 5000 years old rich civilization and were leading an exiled life now for last 27 years. Not to speak of their return to Valley the problems of these hapless people have compounded during exile day by day as government never showed any sincerity to settle them. They were harassed in every government fora where they went for justice and even feelers were created by their detractors that community had usurped the rights of majority in Valley which was the root cause of present turmoil. A wrong impression was deliberately tried to create about this peace loving and patriotic community by the forces inimical to national interests, said HardayNath an octogenarian KP passing the refugees life with his children in Mohali Punjab. "We crave for return to our homeland but there is no sincere approach on the part of Government'', he said, adding the day to day problems are deliberately being ignored. How can we expect good treatment from the political dispensation as they deprived the community of RBA status. The community youth belonging to RBA areas in the Valley were denied RBA certificates by previous Omar Abdullah led coalition on the plea that they no longer reside in those areas and the new government also failed to take any appropriate step in this regard till date, said Mr Nath, adding when it comes to extend any benefit to Pandits which are given to other people in Valley it is said that they no longer reside in Kashmir and when it comes to cast of votes even in Municipal elections their (migrants) names are deleted from voter lists on the pretext that they belong to Valley. These intentions of the Government are self explanatory, said Nath. |
