Srinagar, May 5: Claiming that the measures are being taken to streamline transport department in the state, the State Transport Minister Thursday said that the department is soon incorporating GPS technology in all the SRTC buses. He said that with this technology commuters travelling in SRTC buses, can track the exact location of their bus and plan their journey accordingly. "It will greatly benefit the passengers as they will be having real-time information about the movement of buses and will have ETA (estimated time of arrival) of the respective bus at respective place, so that they can plan their travel accordingly," the minister informed Early Times over phone. Sharma further said "The system will help in bunching of buses and track the speed of the buses. In other words, the controllers at the headquarters and bus stations can track whether the bus is travelling at prescribed speed limits, where it made unauthorized stops, where it skipped bus stations, where it is supposed to go, whether there were any problems with the bus like mechanical failure or any accident."
He said that the technology would also be beneficial to authorities to track the vehicle's location and maintain punctuality. "In case of any delay or breakdown, authorities can track the location of the bus and arrange another bus. Drivers skipping stages or cutting short the trips too can be detected through monitoring in the main control room," explains the minister. The upbeat BJP minister claimed that he will not bear corruption in the transport department. "I can assure the people that I will never allow such practices. I request people to inform me directly if they find any malpractice taking place in transport department" He advised public to come forward themselves to get their work done without offering bribe to any official. "Self help is the best help. Do not involve employees in bribery for the sake of shortcuts," he said When asked if there is any plan to create one-window clearance system in the RTO's, he replied that the government will try its best to create the one window clearance system.
