13 smugglers held, 172 bovines rescued | | | Early Times Report JAMMU/RAJOURI, May 8: In a major crackdown on smuggling of bovine animals, police have arrested 13 smugglers from Jammu and Rajouri areas and rescued a total of 172 animals. Police sources said under 'Operation Kamdhenu' launched by Jammu SSP Sunil Gupta, cops led by Nagrota police station SHO, Inspector Karan Chalotra intercepted six vehicles -- JK14D/0989, JK02BM/8377, JK02AP/7318, JK02AL/7507, JK02AJ/8775 and JK13C/3911 - near Bantalab, Nagrota. During checking of these vehicles, cops found that 94 bovines were being carried illegally to the valley. Police then seized the vehicles and freed the animals. Three bovine smugglers were arrested in this connection. Sources identified them as Mian Zulfkar of Ransoo, Reasi, Tariq Ahmed Bhat of Malangpura near Awantipora in Pulwama and Mohammad Sadiq of Puranputi Landar, Udhampur. A case under sections 379 and 188 of RPC was registered at Nagrota police station against. Some of the bovine smugglers managed to flee. A hunt was on to nab them too, sources informed. Meanwhile, police last night apprehended 10 smugglers from different Rajouri areas and rescued a total of 78 bovine animals. Six Tata Mobiles, unlawfully carrying 25 bovine animals to the valley, were seized by Rajouri police station SHO, Inspector Chaman Gorkha late at night from Samsimt near Darhali Bridge, Chungus. The vehicles were on their way to Kashmir via Thanamandi-Mughal Road when the cops intercepted them, sources said. While the smugglers fled the spot under the cover of darkness, police seized the vehicles and rescued the animals. A case in this connection was registered at Rajouri police station under section 188 of RPC and 3 of PCA. Two Tata Mobiles (JK02E/6736 and JK11B/1005) were seized by a police team led by Darhal police station SHO, Inspector Raghubir Sharma from Rakiban late last night. The cops also arrested five smugglers, besides rescuing seven bovine animals. The smugglers included Babu Hussain, son of Kaka of Thananamdi, Mohammad Anwar, son of Abdul Majid, Shabaaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Qayoom of Badi Darhal, Fazal Rehman, son of Mohammad Qayoom of Hill Tak, and Intkhab Ahmed, son of Zariet Hussain Bari Darhal. They were booked under section 188 of RPC and 3 of PCA. Two Tata Mobiles (JK02AP/4403 and JK11B/0516), carrying 10 bovine animals to the valley, were seized by cops led by Sunderbani police station SHO, Inspector Ravinder Singh Parihar, from near ITI, Sunderbani. The animals were later freed. Three smugglers were arrested in this connection. Sources identified them as Muneer Hussain, son of Badar Din, Mohammad Mushtaq, son of Munshi Khan and Mohammad Azam, son of Sakhi Mohammad. They too were booked under section 188 of RPC and 3 of PCA. Lam police post incharge, SI Ashwani Kumar today arrested two smugglers while they were carrying 15 bovines to Kashmir. They were identified as Laquit Hussain, son of Mir Mohammad and Mohammad Rafiq, son of Noor Mohammad of Lam. Police have booked them under sections 188 RPC and 3 of PCA. A police team led by Kalakote police station SHO, Inspector Mohammad Iqbal too rescued 11 bovines from smugglers at Fafran Gran. The smugglers, who managed to flee, were booked by police under section 188 of RPC and 3 of PCA. |
