ET story 'forces' CM to think about denial of accommodation to Chairperson SSWB | Estates department rectifies wrong, issues allotment order | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Repot SRINAGAR, May 8: The state government seems to have awakened from the 'slumber' since it has issued orders for allotment of accommodation for a chairperson who was without the same for more than a year now. Director Estates issued an order on May 7 according to which accommodation has been allotted to Nirmal Gupta, Chairperson State Social Welfare Board (SSWB). Gupta who was appointed as chairperson in July last year had not been allotted the accommodation in Srinagar last year and this year too, the picture was not rosy as well. Despite enjoying post of Minister of State (MoS), Nirmal Gupta was being denied the official accommodation at Srinagar. This is despite the fact that she wrote many missives to the government in this regard. During last year's Durbar Move she had to stay at the Circuit House here. "Sanction is hereby accorded to the hiring of private houses and their allotment in favour of following dignitaries as shown against each from the date of actual occupation till ending October 2016," wrote Director Estates in order under government order 66-EST of 2016 dated 07-05-2016. According to the order, Dr. Nirmal Kamal, Chairperson State Social Welfare Advisory Board has been allotted the house of Saba Andrabi at Indira Nagar here near the Safari guest house. The order further reads that Kuldeep Raj Sharma, Vice-Chairman, Advisory Board for Development of Pahari speaking people has been allotted the house of Iffat Mufti at Shivpora. The order further read that the hiring of these private houses would be subject to the payment of rent which shall be assessed by the State Level Rent Assessment Committee. It would be in place to mention here that Early Times had on May 4 published a story regarding denial of accommodation to the chairperson of SSWB in Srinagar. Sources said that once the story was published, chief minister Mehbooba Mufti took immediate notice of the issue and pulled up the concerned officials for their lackadaisical attitude. "The chief minister summoned the higher ups of the Estates department and made her displeasure clear to them on the denial of accommodation to the chairperson, SSWB. The department officials were asked to make the necessary arrangements and they did so fearing that they might land in trouble," said sources. Pertinently lack of accommodation for the employees has over the years remained a burning issue and this year too is not different. Not to talk of the lower rung employees even some higher ups have been denied the same. If the things are not set in right direction then problems may galore in this respect. |
