Politics of attendance in JU’s, History, Economics Deptts | Scholars being targeted selectively | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 8: The melodrama of attendance has become the easiest tool to strangulate the research scholars in the departments of History and Economics in the University of Jammu. Sources said the key features of the attendance issue as per university statute and MSP 2009 is that the scholars had to complete two years of residential period which symbolizes that scholars had to be regular within a frame work of two years to complete the pre-ph.d. course work and after that he/she can apply for a job and convert themselves into part-time research scholars. The non issue till now has suddenly stirred up when the two scholars of History department and one scholar of Economics are targeted in the name of attendance by their concerned HODs just before the submission of thesis. These HODs never highlighted the attendance issue nor did they put general notice of attendance before the abstract of the thesis. Only when they were informed that the concerned scholars were about to finish their research work , they raised the issue of attendance to victimize them. The issue has raised the issue that if the attendance is really the core issue, why the HOD of history department permits the extension of the scholars after three years of regular course work and residential period. Moreover the proper progress reports had been given by the scholars and duly signed by the HOD. Starngely, the same HOD Prof. Shailendra Singh allowed his two scholars namely Nidhi Jasrotia and Uddham Das to submit the thesis even though they did not possess the minimum attendance as revealed in an RTI query. Nidhi Jasrotia another scholar of Prof. Shailendra Singh had negiligible attendance and pursued her job in local college of Jammu from the initial stage of her research work. This is the biggest irony of research excellence when the same HOD stirred the subject of attendance of the two scholars of Dr. Nirmal Singh when the research scholars had accomplished all the research norms including Pre-Ph.D. course work, Progress reports after every six months, publications, five years of whole time scholarship and completed five years of residential period. |
