Weather remain pleasant as fresh WD to hit region from May 10 | | | Srinagar, May 8: Weather remained pleasant though the mercury was above normal in the Kashmir valley, where rain is predicted as fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit from May 10. After recording yet another above normal night temperature, people woke up to a sunny morning though winds also continued, making the weather very pleasant in the valley, where tourist resorts were flooded by local and outside tourists today. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that the weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours in the Jammu and Kashmir. However, from May 10 there is possibility of isolated , scattered and fairly widespread rain till May 13 in the valley. The maximum and minimum temperatures remained above normal in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours. Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort in north Kashmir also recorded considerable increase in the minimum temperature as against yesterdays 5.2 degree, it was 8 degree, three notches above normal. Because of the surge in the mercury, snow on the upper reaches had started melting very fast. At Pahalgam, famed health resort in south Kashmir,the minimum temperature was 5.5 degree, half a notch above normal, he said, adding Kokernag and Kupwara recorded above normal minimum temperature while at Qazigund it was a notch below normal. There was slight drop in the minimum temperature at Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region. Against yesterdays 7.6 degree minimum temperature it was 7.1 degree while at border town of Kargil it was 4.1 degree against yesterdays 5.3 degree. He said mainly clear sky is predicted at Leh and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 23 degree and 7 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. |
