Over 100 water hand pumps installed in Banihal are defunct
MLA says Railways, Tunnels construction caused depletion of ground water

Srinagar June 11: Member legislative Assembly from Banihal today raised the issues of drying up of traditional water bodies and decreased in ground water in his constituency Banihal reportedly caused due to construction of railway tunnels and four ways tunnels. MLA also said that atleast 100 hands pumps are lying defunct due to low ground water.
While raising the issue in Legislative Assembly today, MLA Banihal alleged that Banihal has great potential of water resources which are drying up with each passing day due to the mass construction of railways and fourway tunnels at Gund Tethar,Tethar, Chareel,Krawa,Bankoot, Chapnari,Tatnihal,Kote,Sumber and Khari Seeran and other places. He added that the mass construction has adversely affected the natural water resources in these area and people are suffering badly. MLA also reminded that he earlier also had raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly but despite directions were issued by the Speaker, nothing was done in this regard by the concerned department and now he seeks fresh directions from the House to concerned department in this regard that too for the cause of people.
MLa while speaking in question hour today urged upon the government to direct the Indian Railway and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) authorities to prepare detailed project of affected water bodies and arranged funds for tapping nearby water sources in these affected areas and ensure to work on it so that the general public of these area can not suffer anymore.
He also alleged that government is acting very carelessly to ensure the timely completion of different water supply schemes as well as installation and repairing of sanctioned hand pumps in Banihal constituency. He also demanded early repair of over 100 defunct hand pumps and installation of remaining sanctioned hand pumps in Banihal Constituency and also demand funds for tanker service in Banihal. In the end he demanded increase of required funds for completion of different water supply schemes in Banihal constituency.
