Govt fails to retrieve industrial land from idling entrepreneurs | | | Saqib Junaid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 11: Amid claims of giving a boost to the industrial sector in J&K, the government has failed to retrieve hundreds of kanals of industrial land at Samba, Bari Brahmana, Rangreth, Lassipora, Kathua, Khonmoh and Gangyal industrial estate's from the entrepreneurs who failed to set up their business units on the allotted land since 1995. According to reports, scores of aspiring entrepreneurs were allotted land by SIDCO at the low prices aimed at generation of employment opportunities and to grow the industrial sector of the state who over the years have failed to establish their business units. The state government in the past served multiple notices to these entrepreneurs and also set March 31 2016 as final deadline for setting up the units. However, these entrepreneurs as per the officials had failed to come up with the explanation regarding the non-utilization of the land due to which the land was to be retrieved from them. Official sources said despite serving of notices in the past these entrepreneurs have created impediments on the cancellation of land allocation by getting stay orders from the court of law, and has become the main reason for delay in retrieval of land. Sources said poor infrastructure, lack of government's attention is the main reason for failure of retrieval of land from entrepreneurs who also have failed to utilize it on time and have been able to take advantage of the time extension given by the government from time to time. A senior official at State Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) admitted that entrepreneurs from past many years have been served notices and had failed to avail the opportunities. Now as they missed the final deadline, the land will be retrieved from them. "We are going to serve cancellation notifications of land to these idling entrepreneurs after the completion of legal procedures". "More than hundreds of entrepreneurs across the state were the opportunity by establishing their units on the land allotted to them and have missed many deadlines now the government will act tough against them," he added. Meanwhile many failed entrepreneurs complained that the land allotted to them lacks proper arrangement of water supply, electricity and other necessities required at the site of industrial units and is the reason for non setting up the industrial units and blamed the SIDCO for failing to act as a nodal agency for the promotion and development of medium, large and mega industries. While more than 200 sick units in the state mocks at the tall claims of government of having improving the industrial sector in state. According to the official figures, 80 sick industrial units have been identified in Kashmir region with Srinagar district topping the list having 35 units followed by Pulwama with around 15 units. In Jammu region, Jammu district has around 60 sick units followed by Udhampur and Samba districts having around 30 such units. Sources said the government is likely to establish one Asset Reconstruction Company (ARC) in order to boost the state's industrial sector by reviving multiple sick industries. As one initiative under the new formulated Industrial Policy, the government through ARC will provide necessary economic impetus to the industries which have been lying defunct from last many years. |
