Miscreants attack Kheer Bhawani bound vehicles

Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 11: Two Kashmiri female Pandit pilgrims, including a teenage girl, on way to Kheer Bhawani, were injured when miscreants pelted stones at a vehicle, in which they were travelling, near Wanpoh in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Saturday evening, police sources said.
They identified injured as Hina Thusu, 22, wife of Deepak Thusu of TRT Nagrota and Mansi Kaul, 16, daughter of Makhan Lal Kaul of Janipur. They were rushed to Army hospital Khanabal for treatment and both of them are admitted there.
Sources said a few miscreants appeared near Wanpoh late this evening and targeted the bus bearing (No. JK 02 AS 1677) carrying Kashmiri Pandit pilgrims to Kheer Bhawani mela at Tulmulla in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.
Inderjit Labroo of Samajwadi Party told Early Times over phone that due to stone pelting windowpanes of one the vehicles were broken and two pilgrims were wounded after being hit by stones on their head.
Attack on Kashmiri Pandit pilgrims came a few days after the self-styled commander of Hizbul-Mujahideen, Burhan Wani, threatened that the militants would attack the colonies the government is mulling to construct for the KPs.
"If Sainik colony or separate colonies on Israel pattern for Hindus are created in Kashmir we will target them," Burhan Wani said in a video which was released earlier this week.
The 6:17 minute video that had gone viral on social networking sites, including whatsapp, Burhan had asked people to attack the security forces with the stones if they cordon off any area and not allow police and other force personnel to enter in their respective villages and mohallas.
Despite the Hizbul Mujahideen commander giving an open threat government failed to make the elaborate security arrangements to facilitate the movement of pilgrims to Kheer Bhawani shrine. "When the vehicles were attacked no force personnel were around," said a source.
Meanwhile, large number of Kashmiri Pandits Saturday left from Jammu to Ganderbal to take part in the annual 'Kheer Bhawani Mela' at Tulmula on Sunday.
Kheer Bhawani mela is held every year at the shrine of the Hindu Goddess, Mata Ragyna Devi. The shrine was constructed by erstwhile Dogra rulers of Jammu and Kashmir. Thousands of Kashmiri Pandits throng Kheer Bhawani every year to participate in the annual mela.
The state government had arranged special fleet of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses to carry the pilgrims from Jammu to attend the festival. A large number of private buses and small vehicles were also seen ferrying the pilgrims.
