CB busts gang of thieves, PP head takes credit | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 11: While it was Crime Branch (CB) that busted a gang of thieves, which had committed over a dozen burgalries at different places here, a police post incharge has taken the credit for it. The gang also confessed to have burgled into a gun shop at railway station and in the house of a SHO, police sources said. Sources said CB had some time back busted the gang and arrested four of its members, all of whom hail from Guna district of Madhya Pradesh. Their interrogation revealed that they used to recce the houses during the day time and strike at night. In some cases, they stole items from the houses with family members sleeping in their rooms, the sources added. They were apprehended by CB sleuths after they made a major strike at Digiana. Two vehicles and cash were recovered from them during their grilling. Since the matter did not fall under the jurisdiction of CB, a senior CB officer spoke to a senior officer of Jammu police, asking him to take custody of the thieves. After CB handed over the thieves to the concerned police post incharge, he started making wrong claims that the gang had actually been busted by him. Sources said after the district police came to know that it was actually the CB work, the PP head was immediately disassociated from the probe and the SHO concerned was asked to go ahead with the investigation, sources said. |
