Jammu, June 11 : Principal sessions judge, Kathua, Sanjay Dhar today rejected the bail application of a man in an abetment to suicide case. Radha Sharma was alleged to have committed suicide by hanging herself to death at the residence of her husband Rohit Singh of ward No 13, Hiranagar. The matter was brought to the notice of police by her grandfather on May 20, 2016 at about 11.45 am. Taking a cognizance of the matter, police started inquest proceedings under section 174 of CrPC. Radha and Rohit were married over two years ago. Police investigation revealed that after about 5-6 months of the marriage, Rohit, his mother Neena Kumari, brother Narinder Singh and uncle Kuldeep Singh demanded more dowry from her and started harassing her. Rohit allegedly demanded a plot of land and other articles from her, causing her mental torture. Rohit had also filed a petition for grant of divorce from Radha in the court of district judge, Kathua, on June 11, 2015. Radha, who was depressed by the alleged acts of her husband, committed suicide on March 18, 2016 by hanging herself to death with a dhuppata. Offences under sections 498, 306 and 304-B of RPC were found established against the accused and the chargesheet was, accordingly, filed in the court. Rohit was arrested on May 17, 2016. Observing that the accused was involved in a heinous offence, the judge dismissed his bail application.(JNF) |
