J&K has 1917 protected persons: Rs 234.51 cr spent on accommodation, fuel, SPOs | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 14: There are 1971 protected people in Jammu and Kashmir, where an amount of Rs 234.51 crore was being spent on providing them hotel accommodation, Personnel Security Officers (PSOs), guards and fuel.This information was provided in the Legislative Assembly (LA) today by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also hold Home portfolio.She said 1633 protected persons--other than serving officers from police and security agencies have been provided security cover under various categories. Besides, 284 un-categorised political activists have been provided secured hotel accommodation only.Ms Mufti said, it would not be feasible to disclose the names of these protected person in view of the security consideration. The expenditure incurred on account of salary of PSOs, static guards, fuel and hotel accommodation for these protected persons varies from year to year depending upon the actual expenditure, the Chief Minister said.However, for the financial year 2015-16, the annual expenditure on this account for 1917 protected has been Rs 234.51 crore.The salary of police personnel, other than SPOs deployed as PSOs or on guard duties with protected persons is being borne by the state government.The claims under transportation and accommodation are being reimbursed by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Ministry releases 60 per cent of funds at the time of receipt of claims and 40 per cent is being reimbursed after i conducts audit of the accounts. |
