Two Army soldiers injured in a gunfight near LoC
Operation still underway

KUPWARA, June 14: Two army soldiers were injured today in a gunfight at Machil sector along LoC in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
A senior police official said that army's 56 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) intercepted a group of militants at Katwara forest area near Line of Control (LoC) at Jatgali in Machil sector today morning.
"After being challenged, the suspected militants opened fire on the forces, triggering off an encounter, the official said.
He said that, "in the initial exchange of gunfight, a soldier sustained injuries and he was immediately airlifted to army's 92 base hospital for treatment.
However reliable sources from the area informed that, "the security forces who are taking part in the combing operation have cordon off the whole area to track down the hiding militants at the earliest, adding that the area is close to the Line of Control.
While as no official has given accurate information about the number of militants present in the dense forests, security forces have intercepted militants in the area who fired on them, said sources.
Sources further said that army has spotted two to three militants near the Line of Control in Machil sector, when the militants were intercepted they fired on the troops in which one soldier was injured.
Meanwhile Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col N N Joshi confirmed to early times that two soldiers were injured and they are stable now, adding that operation is still under way.
When asked that is there any infiltration bid from the other side of the Line of Control, he said that, after finishing the operation, details will be shared with you.
