Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: Outraged by the alleged act of a Doda youth, who this evening smashed the window panes inside a religious place at Roop Nagar on the city outskirts here, a mob torched two police vehicles outside Janipura police station, besides blocking the main Janipura road to vehicular traffic.
Police sources said that at around 6.45 pm, a youth, alleged to be mentally unstable, visited the clinic of psychiatrist, near a religious place at Roop Nagar.
Sources said that while he was sitting in the clinic waiting for his turn, he suddenly rushed outside and entered the religious place, where he smashed the window panes and also tried to ransack the idols.
He was immediately apprehended by the Flying Squad of Janipur Police Station which was on patrol duty and taken to Janipur police station.
As the news of the incident spread, local people started protests and blocked the road opposite Police Station Janipur while the mob also set two vehicles on fire.
After getting the information, senior police officials immediately reached the spot and tried to pacify the protestors.
Meanwhile, district administration has imposed section 144 as a precautionary measure to dissuade mob gathering.
An ASI posted at Janipur police station was also suspended for allegedly manhandling people who had gathered there. The district administration has appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours.
Protests continued till late tonight.
Reports said later administration deployed Central Reserve Police Force in the area to prevent the situation from taking an ugly turn.
