Water crisis further worsens in Poonch 50 pc borewells dry-up 6/14/2016 11:04:30 PM MS Nazki Early Times Report Poonch, June 14: Water crisis has further worsened in Poonch .as people face scarcity of water Reports suggest 50 pc defunct borewells add to woes of the people. People alleged that Mechanical Sub Division PHE has become an ailing tooth for the district as the district faces acute shortage of water. They said that most of the borewells in the district were defunct and according the sources the department has no funds to maintain or repair them. There have been 397 borewells in poonch, 513 in Mendhar and in Surankote 217 were dugged out by the Mechanical Department but failed to maintain them as nearly half of the total borewells were dried up and were not in working order. Staging a protest demonstration against the district administration Poonch-Jammu road near Kellar Mohra for more then 3 hours today, the agitating people warned the Govt of dire consequences if their water crisis in the district were not solved. Taking cognizance of the matter, District Development Commissioner MH Malik along with XEn PHE Poonch, AEE Israr khan and SDPO Shahid Naeem reached the spot and pacified the agitating protestor. They were assured that their grievance will be addressed with in shortest possible time.
