Pesticide industries units flowing hazardous chemical waste to drains, SPCB in slumber

SAMBA Jun e22: Toxic effluents of Ravi Pesticide industry unit and other pesticide related unit allegedly directing their wastage into the drains in Samba SIDCO Phase- I which is causing hazardous affects on the water bodies in down steam of river basantar and calls for attention but concerned authorities from state Pollution Control Board are in deep slumber.
According to reports some people in area today after getting the information about hazardous waste coming out from outlet of industrial units rushed to the spot. And to their surprise noticed that some untreated affluent coming out of the pesticide unit name and style as Ravi Chemical was mixing with water in the nalluh (rivulet) and giving it's a colour .
People demanded why state Pollution Control Board (SPCB) Samba have failed to take action against violators who still are directing the waste to the local rivulets. Local recalled that some months ago in recent past, some cattle got perished after intaking polluted water from a local water body in downstream. When contacted Pollution Control Officer Samba said we have written a letter to the higher authorities against this industry and have sought directions to take step in this regard. People alleged if the department has only written a letter to higher authorities why the department yet has failed to action against the particular industrial unit. They alleged it merely as an eye wash to subside the anger of people.
Local also said that villagers living in hamlets situated along the downstream of the river who use the water of river traditionally for agricultural and domestic purposes are also facing health problems.
"The concerned authorities that hardly conduct checking of the ETPs installed in the units in Samba, they said and added that many pesticide units are taking benefit of this casual approach of authorities and are violating the norms while posing danger to the life of the people and animals,
