Separatists are threat to peace: Mehbooba | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 22: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today defended her decision of restricting the movement of separatist leaders and said the same is imperative for maintaining peace and tranquility in the state especially Kashmir valley. "I am not enthused to restrict the movement of some people, but they force me to do so. Their activities tend to dent the arrival of tourists to this place. Since the tourist season has just picked up I am left with no option but to keep these people at bay," said Mehbooba while winding up the discussion on grants of ministries being manned by her in the Legislative Assembly. The Chief Minister took a dig at the separatists for raking up the Article 370 issue on frequent basis and said that these people forget the basic issues confronting the people of state. She said that raking up controversial issues would lead to disruption of peace in the state, adding that her government is committed to bringing peace. "There are people who from Masjids preach about Article 370 and tend to misguide the people as a whole. These people never give sermons about the basic issues confronting the people of Kashmir. They would never talk about important issues like climate, preservation of water bodies, condition of Dal and environment," said Mehbooba. The Chief Minister said that religious preachers' make lot of hue and cry over molestation bid carried out by a man in uniform but would remain mum as and when a civilian carries out a same act. She said that these religious preachers have double standards and as such they cannot be sympathetic to the common masses and the problems being faced by them. "There are people who want to divide the people of Jammu and Kashmir on communal lines. We won't allow such things but at the same time people too have to remain vigilant. Peace and tranquility can be brought about in the state by active cooperation of all stakeholders. There are people who want to put the entire state on fire and the people should be aware about the activities of these vested interests," said Mehbooba. The Chief Minister said that dialogue would happen as and when the situation is conducive. She said the government is contemplating to grant amnesty to the youth who were booked for creating law & order problem and are not involved in heinous crimes. She added the government does not believe in pushing the youth to the wall. "I need not to justify my party's alliance with BJP. It was my father's dream and I am pursuing the same. I would not hesitate in joining hands with BJP a thousand times if the same is for the overall development of the state and helps in mitigating the miseries as well as sufferings of the people as a whole. Alliance with BJP had to be stitched since the party got overwhelming majority in the Jammu division and as such the Jammu mandate could not have been wasted," said Mehbooba. The Chief Minister said that 545 industrial units set up by the non-state subjects in the state have come up in the past and not during the tenure of present coalition government. She said that people as well as politicians did not show any concern when the power projects of the state were handed over to National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC). Mehbooba accused the National Conference of imposing ban on Shahtoosh that led to snatching of livelihood to thousands of families. She said that the autonomy of Jammu & Kashmir Bank got diluted during the NC-Congress government. She said that instead of picking holes the opposition should help in restoring the law & order situation in the state so that Jammu & Kashmir treads on the path of progress and development. The chief minister said that the world is shrinking for the people of Kashmir. She said that time will come in near future when Kashmiris would not be allowed in countries like United States of America, United Kingdom and France. She said as such facilities need to be improved in the state so that people get all the world class facilities at home. Mehbooba expressed concern that the educational standard has come down and that Jammu as well as Srinagar have come up as big garbage dumps. She accepted that Roshni scheme has turned out to be a big failure with the scheme fetching Rs 77 crores instead of Rs 25,000 crores. The Chief Minister reiterated that Kashmiri Pandits would be accommodated in transit accommodations as and when they decide to come back to Kashmir. She said that Kashmiriyat is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits. She said the heritage buildings would be preserved in downtown Srinagar and that accommodation would be created there so that the tourists visit the areas of downtown Srinagar. Mehbooba accepted the fact that some times the funds meant for Kashmir get diverted to Jammu since the money is not spent in the valley due to the frequent law and order problem. She said that advertisement policy for the newspapers announced during the Governor’s Rule would be examined. The Chief Minister said that district SPs would issue certificates to the people who seek jobs under SRO 43. She said the pending 250-300 SRO cases would be disposed off very soon.
