Poor Quality PDS flour irks consumers, CAPD Deptt unmoved | | | Mohd Irfan Early Times Report JAMMU, June 23: Notwithstanding the tall claims of the Minister every now and then that there would no compromise on the quality of the ration, the quality of the PDS flour has punctured his claims as Flour being supplied is unfit for human consumption. "Before the implementation of the National food security act (NFSA) the consumers got flour in gunny bags in 10kg per Rs 85 but loose PDS Flour being provided is of inferior quality and the CAPD department is not paying heed towards the complaints of the consumers" a group of aggrieved consumers told Early Times. Sources disclose that grinding mills working under CAPD department are violating norms and the department has failed to supervise and control them. It is pertinent to mention here that the required ratio of wheat grinding is 75% Flour and 25% bran while these mills are producing 80% bran and 20% atta. "As there are different compartments in the mills for grinding wheat but these 'unscrupulous millers' in order to make fast buck make violate norms and produce poor quality flour for the PDS. Sources divulge that these Mills owners bribe CAPD officials so that they don't interfere in their misdeeds. AD MILLS Sana Khan when contacted said that action shall be taken if any formal complaint of poor quality flour is registered with the department. However, despite repeated attempts, Director CAPD Jammu G S Chib didn't respond to the calls. |
