| Omar's 'Boba' remark invites nationwide fury | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 23: Former Chief Minister and National Conference working-President, Omar Abdullah is yet again facing public fury online, this time over his remarks for an elderly Kashmiri woman performing Yoga here.
Omar is being accused of having ridiculed the women fraternity through his tweet. "Hahaha, too cute. Poor boba but hats off to her she isn't shamming even if she doesn't know what she's there for :)," Omar Tweeted on the micro-blogging website, alongside the picture of the old woman doing exercise.
The picture is believed to have been caught during the special Yoga session hosted by senior BJP leader Dr Hina Bhat at Raj Bagh here in connection with the Yoga Day celebrations where she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision.
Though Omar seemingly ridiculed at the rightwing party, his tweet ended up stirring a fresh controversy, wherein Twitter handlers have started a nationwide campaign against his "foolish remarks."
Among the first trollers was a Kashmiri woman, who said Omar did the same when he was the Chief Minister in 2014. That time Omar had picked up broom in Srinagar for sanitation drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
Rizwana Rashid, ?@rashidrizwana took at dig at Omar recapping the same. "@abdullah_omar I thought you would be doing it too like you were cleaning streets for #SwachhBharat :p," she said.
This was followed by numerous hate posts. Yougesh Bhat ?@bhatjiju said "@abdullah_omar: at least she is better than all other so called intellectuals."
Another netizen said Omar has ridiculed the innocence of the old woman. "@abdullah_omar how could you say that she doesn't know about the purpose and event," asked Bhavesh K Pandey.
Some even said it was shame for the National Conference president to have maligned a noble cause, of Yoga, which is globally acclaimed. "@abdullah_omar shame that we have leader like this who try to malign such Nobel initiative," Tweeted ?@sunilkedaraji.
Others said the old woman was better than young Omar who does nothing but only tweets. "@abdullah_omar Bit mean of you guys to make fun of the woman. At least she had the get-up-and-go to attend while you were lolling in bed," said Jyoti Singh.
A netizen Gautam asked Omar if he was biased against BJP or Yoga. "@abdullah_omar so u r against yoga or bjp or both ? Plz clarify," said ?@GothamCityDawn.
It is not the first time that Omar is facing public criticism for his Tweets. His controversial Tweets have often left the party seniors red-faced as they believe that Omar resorts to "childish politics through his tweets."
Despite repeated attempts, Omar could not be contacted for comments. |
