Geelani sidelines Mirwaiz, Malik, issues protest call individually | Separatists expose their unity drama | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 23: The separatists in Kashmir were beating the trumpet of unity louder with Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq exhibiting a united face. Merely half a month later, it all turned out to be a mere hoax. The trio, while resolving, that no statement shall be issued separately by any of the three organisations- Hurriyat (G), Hurriyat (M) and the JKLF, it was the old Huriyat Hawk, Syed Ali Geelani who refused to tread over the horizon. Geelani issued a separate detailed statement on June 22, asking people to observe July 1 as Youm-e-Quds. Appealing people to observe the last Friday of Ramadan (July 1) as "Youm-ul-Quds" and June 24 (Friday) as "Youm-e-Kashmir", Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday said peace will elude the world until the issues of Kashmir and Palestine are settled as per the wishes and aspirations of its people. In a statement issued here, Geelani also appealed the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Hurriyat Conference leaders, Islamic scholars and imams of the mosques to highlight the issue of Masjid Al-Aqsa in their Jumma-tul-vida sermons and organise special prayers for the peaceful resolution of all the disputed territories including Palestine and Kashmir. "We must also pray for end to uncertain situations in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria," he said, adding, the intervention of "anti-Islam" forces into the internal matters of these countries was responsible for the bloodshed in these regions. However, a day later, he had to eat his words and issue a separate statement wherein he clarified that he didn't issue any statement separately or while ignoring the other two separatist groups of Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar farooq. Sources said that Geelani was reprimanded by Mirwaiz and Malik's parties over his fascist mindset and ignoring the very principles of unity. The JKLF and Mirwaiz's Hurriyat while castigating Geelani's approach had warned him that they too wouldn't care about what has been decided over the unity proposal of separatist groups, Yasin and Mirwaiz also have cautioned Geelani that they would make the fissures public. Sensing trouble, Hurriyat (G) clarified that the statement regarding the observing of July 1 as "Youm-ul-Quds" and June 24 as "Youm-e-Kashmir" (Kashmir Day) was actually a joint program of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik and by mistake only Geelani's name appeared in the June 22 press release. The Hurriyat statement reads that all the three leaders appealed the people to remember all the martyrs of Kashmir on the Jumat-ul-Vida (Youm-ul-Quds) and organize special prayers for the liberation of Kashmir and Palestine from the clutches of 'oppressive powers'. |
