GMCH principal takes charge of 3 departments | Centralizing power | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, June 23: Though Union as well as state government has been emphasizing on decentralization of powers, but it seems the Principal of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu has adopted a contradictory stance by holding charge of three departments, instead of exploring options, available there. Pertinent to mention here that besides this principal of GMCH issued an order to hand over the charge of other department to other Head of Department (HoD) reportedly. However, the officials of the hospital asserted that the Principal had approached Head of Department of Medicine department but he refused to take charge of three related departments viz Neurology, Psychiatry and Chest department so that Principal took charge of these departments’ himself. Contradicting the claims of officials of hospital, Senior doctors, seeking anonymity told Early Times that, if the said HOD refused to take charge of these departments then why didn't Principal find other alternative to hand over charge of them. "If administration of the hospital has failed to convince HOD Medicine for it, the charge should have been given to the Associate Professors of related department but principal overlooking all these options and put himself as a head of these departments leaving other competent having specialization sidelined, " they stated. "Without exploring other options to give charge of three vital departments GMCH its associated hospitals, the Principal exercising his powers took charge of them despite the fact that he does not possess any expertise to take important decisions related to their services, " they stated. If some doctors in the hospital are believed, as he is specialized in Pharmacology department and doesn't have enough knowledge of these departments (he doesn't related these department) can't hold charge of these departments. Principal GMCH Jammu, Dr Zahid Gillani's could not be contacted as his phone was switched off. |
