Old Jekhani Park reduced to garbage dumping ground | | | Ashwani sharma Early Times Report Udhampur, June 23: Citing absence of maintenance of locality Park, the residents of Jekhani locality have accused the authorities of failing to maintain Old Jekhani Park which according to them is in shambles. The residents of area said that the dilapidated park creates negative impression on visitor to the area. Local said that they even don't remember since when the park was last renovated. "The concerned department has failed to refurbish or maintain this park as a result of which it has become a hub of illegal activities including dumping the garbage by some miscreants," local residents said. Barhat choudary member of Keep Fit and Morning Walker Association (KF&MWA) and others while talking to Early Times said that the old jekhani park has become garbage dumping ground only after the opening of new Jekhani Park since 2010. They also said that old Jekhani park is reduced to shambles by concerned authorities as the trees, flowers beds and other recreational gadgets including swings etc have been left without care and maintenance Other local namely Raj Kumar, Sham Lal,Arun Kumar and others also lamented that some people can't afford to visit new Jekhani Park where entry fee is applicable @ of Rs 20/- per person. They added the authorities need to take care of the old Jekhani Park also before it falls to the evil eye of land encroachers. Locals said the park is lying unattended as a result, wild grass has grown which gives bad impression to visitors. When contacted District Floriculture Officer Udhampur Pawan Kumar said that the repair work is progress and it is a time consuming process as flowers plants and ornamental trees need some time to grow. He said we are hoping to receive some funds and soon we will complete the maintenance of old park and restore its glory. |
