GCDF formed, executive body elected | | | Early Times Report srinagar, June 23: In an initiative that will bring intellectuals, educationists and social workers under a single platform, Gayoor Cultural and Developmental Foundation (Trust), GCDF, was formed today with Mir Ghulam Rasool being elected its chairman. The elections for the executive body of the foundation were held today on 17 Ramadhan-the day that coincides with the death anniversary of Syed Ghulam Rasool Gayoor. Gayoor was killed by unidentified gunmen in his native Ratnipora village in Pulwama district on 22 October, on 17th Ramzan. Among others Nazir Ahmad Ganaie was elected General Secretary, Showkat Hakeem Chief Organizer, Syed Nazir Ahmad Andrabi and 26 other members were also elected. Aimed to help the downtrodden people of the state, including orphans, widows, poor and identify the issues-developmental, economic, social, education-of people to raise them at concerned quarters for their redressal, the foundation will be pan-state. The foundation will organize literary, cultural programmes in the state and will hold functions in the memory of those personalities who have contributed for the state at different levels in fields including education, literature, social work, religion and other constructive spheres. "Our endeavour will be to bring to light work of all those poets, writers, social workers whose contribution is still unknown to us. And the foundation will become voice of neglected sections of society without any discrimination," "It will name roads, schools, public parks and places on these personalities," he added. The idea of the foundation came across to prominent personalities of Pulwama district, who want to keep the contribution and ideas of late Gayoor in the peoples memory and inform people about ideas. Being apolitical in nature, GCDF shall work for development of cultural ethos of the state and shall fight against all the cultural forces inimical to the cultural heritage of the state. |
