Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 1: Senior Vice President Pradesh Congress Committee and Former Minister Sham Lal Sharma took strong exception over the recent pay hike of legislators and ministers. He said that instead of enhancing the pay hike the government should have paid attention towards the people who were facing miseries nowadays. In a press note issued, Sham expressed anguish over non-regularization of daily wagers and casual labourers in the state adding that so much so they aren't being paid wages for long time. This has made things worse as these daily wagers aren't able to look after their families as their families are fully dependent on them for their livelihood. Sham alleged that the present government made tall promises with farmers but more than one and half year have elapsed no action has been taken in this context and things are going from bad to worse.
Sham further said that salaries of legislators in J&K was Rs 17000 in 2002, Rs 40,000 in 2006 and raised more than double in 2009. Now its Rs 1,60000 where as the pension of widow, orphans, physically challenged and old age people receive Rs 200 only. The BJP-PDP government also promised them to enhance their pension to Rs1000 but it is yet to be hiked.
Sham said that the teacher's appointed under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan have not received their salaries for the last several months. Consequently they are facing financial hardships.
He further said that during elections BJP made tall promises to the people of but haven't fulfilled any of them, the people feel cheated.
