Land transfer bill: 3 BJP ministers stayed away from House | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: As BJP MLAs tried to save some grace and gain of the party while opposing tooth and nail passage of the bill preventing transfer of land on power of attorney to non-state subjects, three key ministers chose to stay away from the House. Their absence was conspicuous for the BJP members who resisted the bill vehemently while all senior ministers of PDP defended it. Party's central leadership is learnt to have taken a strong note of ministers remaining missing from the House even as a reprimand has already been given to Deputy Chief Minister for the lapse of nod from BJP ministers in the cabinet meeting to the bill. Sources said when the controversial bill was about to be tabled in the House, a senior BJP minister made a swift retreat out of the House and comforted himself in the his adjacent room till all noise and ruckus was over. Sources said another minister who otherwise claims to be senior and experienced in comparison to other party colleagues too made his escape good from the House when party legislators struggled with ruling ally as also opposition NC besides other Kashmir-based members in the House in resisting the passage of the amended bill. As if the absence of two senior ministers was not enough, another BJP minister who too claims to be no less than a political think tank of the party was seen missing from the House, albeit in know of everything happening in the House through one of his personal staff member who was 'reporting' the scenario live while sitting in the visitor's gallery, sources said. The absence of all the three ministers from the House at a crucial time could not be coincidence, rather a deliberate attempt for obvious reasons. After committing a blunder in the cabinet meeting in not realizing its repercussions for Jammu interests and political ramifications for BJP while giving approval almost blindly, the three BJP ministers had no guts to face the Chief Minister and their PDP colleagues in the House, sources said, adding that they do not want to get their own position weakened in the eyes of the former which is why they stayed away and left the matter to party legislators. Sources further said that while the three ministers want to remain in good books of PDP, one of them in particular did so for a personal reason, rather a case of land which remains unsettled. However, the party leadership which is already annoyed the ministers mishandled this bill, is learnt to have taken a strong notice of their absence from the House, sources said. |
