| Secretary Sports Council turns 'ring master'! | | Attaches Judo coach to his residence | |

Srinagar, July 1: To the utter anguish and disappointment of hundreds of judokas of the Valley, the only Judo Coach in Kashmir has been made a "bonded labourer" by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, Secretary, Jawaid Ahmad Shah, by permanently attaching him to his (Shah's) residence at the cost of his professional duties.
In what could be termed as the gross misuse of his official position, the Secretary has made the Coach double up as trainer, tutor and caretaker for his children, while hundreds of players who come to the Bakshi stadium for training have to return unattended. "It is a blatant misuse of official position by the Secretary. How could he divert the services of a trained professional employed for public service exclusively for his family, leaving so many players in quandary?" questioned an official of the J&K Judo Association pleading anonymity. "There are six Judo coaches in Jammu and only one in Kashmir and he too has been employed in the service of Secretary's family" he added.
A former national judo player from Kashmir while expressing his resentment said, "Judo is one game in which players from the Valley are doing fairly good and many of them are national prospects if they are given proper training, but it is a pity that the only Coach is deployed at Secretary' residence and the judokas are suffering".
Sources divulge that besides imparting physical training of Secretary's children, the said Coach also works as their tutor and is responsible for the completion of their homework as well. "It is astounding that despite his official posting in Srinagar, the said Coach travels with Secretary's family to Jammu during the darbar move so that he can continue to render uninterrupted services to them, without sparing a thought for hundreds of judo players of the Valley" said another office bearer of the Kashmir wing of the J&K Judo Association.
It is pertinent to mention here that Jawaid Shah has been in the middle of several controversies including incompetence, nepotism, corruption, discrimination and misuse of official position. While members of the Council have come out in open defiance against him in Kashmir alleging his nexus with unrecognized associations to avail illegitimate benefits to blue eyed seeking admissions in professional colleges, , there have been vehement protests against him in Jammu against his neglect of genuine sports persons and alleged discrimination against Jammu. |
