Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: Power Development Department has set a glaring example of blatant discrimination with the need based employees of Jammu province while putting all their counterparts in Kashmir on permanent daily wages under the command of BJP minister.
The sources informed Early Times that 7500 employees were working on need-based in Kashmir division and 3373 in Jammu but all the need-based employees of Kashmir were converted into permanent daily wages ignoring a Jammu province thus giving step motherly treatment to them all here. The sources told that the wages of employees in Kashmir have been cleared up to-date but here in Jammu the employees are languishing for clearance of their pending wages of years together making their day to day living tough and financially tight with price rise touching sky.
While talking to Early Times, the President of employees union told that double parameters adopted by the PDD to appease one section of similar nature of employees of PDD and annoy another section of employees in the same department headed by local BJP minister holding power portfolio is causing great resentment amongst those working in Jammu division with most of them having put in 5 to 12 years service without any guarantee of future while extracting day and night work round the year.
Flaying the discriminatory attitude of the PDD, the President told that all the need based employees in Jammu are without wages for years together and wages are sometimes released for one month only on special occasions like Eid, Diwali or other prominent festivals. He further said that due to apathy and failure of the department to provide justice to these employees, the families and their children have reached at the verge of starvation with the department still sleeping over the issue of converting these employees as permanent daily wagers on the analogy of employees in Kashmir. Lauding the action of the government to put need-based employees in Kashmir as permanent daily wagers clearing their pending wages, it was pointed out with dismay that why such employed in Jammu were not considered on similar lines by the government if the Power Development Department of the State government is one with one person as Head of Power Ministry, he explained.
The sources told that the plight of these employees is getting from bad to worse with the every day passing with the field employees having no guarantee of life in the event of any untoward incident. Citing the example of two such employees, the President of the Union told that some times back Anil Kumar and Sonu working in Phlanmandal and Bishnah met with severe electric short while working in the field with former suffered burn injuries but the department turned a deaf ears to provide any moral or material support to the victim while on duty.
The sources told that 210 such employees of Sub Division II Gandhi Nagar in which areas like Miran Sahib, Bishnah, Shastri Nagar, Greenbelt Park, Trikuta Nagar fall have proceeded on strike from today and suspended the field work. This is likely to hit hard to the power consumers of these areas during sweltering heat, the sources told, adding that due to negligence of PDD to give equal treatment to need based employees of Jammu to bring them at par with employees of Kashmir division , the trouble of public in these areas, who are already in suffering from frequency of powers cuts day and night ,is going to multiply further due to strike in case of any fault in the field in the coming days.
