SKUAST-K has 7 faculties, SKUAST-J only 2 | Discrimination with Jammu | | Arun Singh
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: In a glaring example of discrimination with Jammu by successive as well as the present dispensation, the proposal of introducing four additional faculties of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) has been caught in red-tapism for the last one decade. Sources told Early Times that the much needed demand for the approval to additional faculties viz., Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Dairy Technology and Department of Seed Science Technology, has been vigorously pursued by the university and the matter and replies of all queries with regard to required staff strength and budget estimates for the response of concerned authorities were made, but state Government has totally failed to fulfill the demand. "Notwithstanding the detailed and point-wise justification of the proposal as well as reply to all the queries with regard to required staff strength and budget estimates for the same, the formal proposal of SKUAST-Jammu for approval to at least three more faculties and one division, is still awaiting nod of the Agriculture Production Department and the Planning Department since 2006," they informed. Astonishingly, in 1999, both the varsities had two faculties each; Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Veterinary Science. Now after a period of sixteen years, where the SKUAST-Kashmir has added five more faculties to its strength viz., Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Dairy Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Faculty of Forestry and Jammu SKUAST stands at two faculties. Sources further informed that the issue was deliberated for the first time in the 4th Academic Council of SKUAST-J in May 2005 and after the approval of Board of Management (BOM) same year, it was formally submitted to APD, Govt. and since then formal proposal has been hanging in fire and is still awaiting nod of the Agriculture Production and Planning Department notwithstanding the detailed and point-wise justification of the proposal as well as reply to all the queries. Besides, this legitimate demand for the approval has been pursued by the teaching faculty of the SKUAST-J time to time but apathetic attitude of the government has caused much harm to the university and the student community. |
