BJP hides behind Nehru's 'blunder' to save face | For Amit Shah Kashmir is an 'issue' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah recently blamed the first Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru for the current impasse in Jammu and Kashmir. He went up to the extent of calling Jammu and Kashmir an issue, thus contradicting his party's stand that JK is an integral part of India. Referring to the declaration of truce in 1948 when Pakistan-backed tribal raiders were being repulsed in Kashmir, Shah said the problem in the border state would not exist today but for that decision. "Suddenly, without any reason - the reason is not known even today - truce was declared. Never has any leader of the country made such a historic blunder. If Jawaharlalji had not declared a ceasefire at that time, the Kashmir issue would not have existed," Shah said. The BJP chief while training guns at late Jawahar Lal Nehru wittingly or unwittingly acknowledged that Jammu and Kashmir is an issue and it's the creation of the Congress party. "It's strange that BJP considers JK as an issue and is not sure about its stand that JK is an integral part of India and there could be no compromise on it," said an analyst. He said, "Congress ruled India for decades together but it didn't budge an inch from its stand. Congress didn't give a chance to Pakistan or any other country to even take an inch of Kashmir from India. Whatever said and done Congress stood by it stand that JK is an integral part of India and no negotiations can be held over it." He said that there is no doubt about the fact that Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mokherjee played a pivotal role in getting the permit system to JK cancelled and sacrificed his life to seek the merger of JK into the union of India once for all. "Someone should ask the BJP president why his party is silent over the scrapping of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. BJP used to make tall claims that whenever it comes into power it would ensure that Article 370 is scrapped to pave the way for complete merger of JK into India. Despite having more than 300 seats in the Lok Sabha the party has failed to move a bill in the Parliament to revoke Article 370," he added. An observer said, "BJP entered into a power sharing agreement with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir with a rider that it won't talk about Article 370 and its revocation. Amit Shah is trying to save his face by blaming Nehru for committing a historical blunder." He said, "Since the day BJP has taken over the reins it has messed up India's foreign policy. Some of its leaders talk about war while Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes a surprise visit to Pakistan." An analyst said, "If BJP believes that Nehru committed a historical blunder by calling a truce in 1948 then it should show guts and courage to undo the wrong committed by Nehru. It has got the strength and the power to pave the way for final merger of JK with union of India and snatch Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from Pakistan. If it can't do so then its leaders have no right to indulge in mere rhetoric and comment on history." |
