Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, July 1: Those seeking driving licenses after passing the test are annoyed at the Assistant Regional Transport Office Udhampur for its failure in issuing licenses to them, reportedly due to non availability of stationery. "A month back, I passed the driving test, but the concerned officials of the ARTO Udhampur are not issuing the license as according to them they are short of required stationary," Kuldeep Raj of Udhampur told ET over phone. He said since he bought his bike a month ago, he was caught by traffic police a couple of times. "I had everything to show them; my RC book and other necessary documents, but I had to pay fine, which is not my fault," he said. His concerns were echoed by several people who were waiting for their D/Ls despite passing the driving test. Assistant Regional Transport Officer Udhampur Rajesh Gupta when contacted admitted that his office was short of the required stationary but was quick to add that he had taken up the issue with the Transport Commissioner and hoped that the issue would be sorted out soon. "It is true that there is a pendency issue of the licenses as we did not have enough stationary material required to print them. But now, we have called for the stationary papers on an urgent basis and will begin releasing the same. Within a week, we will try to clear the remaining pendency," he assured. |
