Protestors clash with Police in Kupwara | | | Early Times Report Kupwara, July 1: Dozens of people and scores of police personnel were Friday injured during clashes between stone pelting youth and security forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. As soon as the Friday congregation prayers ended in the Markazi Jamia Masjid Kupwara , the youth took to streets and staged protest against the arrest of youth and setting up of proposed sainik colonies while chanting pro-freedom, anti-government slogans. The protesters mostly youth, marched from Jamia Masjid Kupwara to main chowk. However, police busted tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated youth who were pelting stones on them. Eye-witnesses told that several police personnel's including some officers and many civilians were injured during the clashes in the area. A local journalist was allegedly beaten by policemen during clashes. Dar Rafiq, a Photo Journalist with a local daily, alleged that he was roughed up by the policemen when he was on his job and was trying to take a photograph of a youth who was arrested by police during clashes. The Kupwara Journalist Association has condemned the recent incident. BMO Kupwara, Dr Fareed Ahmad told that at least 21 civilians received injuries during the clashes who were treated in the hospital. |
