Rajnath arrives in Srinagar to assess security situation | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, July 1: Following a sudden surge in militant attacks on security forces in Kashmir, Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh on Friday arrived at Srinagar to take stock of overall security situation in state. Singh who according to official sources reached here for a two visit today will review over all security situation of Jammu and Kashmir in a security review meeting of senior officials of state, central intelligence agencies and Top Brass officials of security wings at the Raj Bhawan on Friday evening. Sources said that all officials who are part of the Unified Headquarters grid will be present during the meeting to present their take to union Home Minister about prevailing ground situation of the state. "He will also be briefed about three tier and aerial security set up framed for smooth functioning of Amarnath Yatra from Pehalgam and Baltal routes up to Holy cave and back." sources told Early Times The unified headquarters is the apex security set up in the state formed to create coordination among various intelligence agencies and security wings engaged in anti-militancy and violence related operations. The Home Minister is also scheduled to visit the Amarnath Cave Shrine on Saturday as the annual Yatra will commence from July 2 officially. Following the deadliest Pampore attack in which eight CRPF men were killed and 22 others injured, a three-member team of the union Home ministry was camped in Srinagar for three days to submit a report to the Home Minister. Visit of Home Minister to State is focused on the overall security situation in the state after back to back militant attacks and to take review of arrangements made for the safety of Amarnath pilgrims. In recent times militants have carried out at least two deadliest attacks on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway during the last one month in which 12 paramilitary troopers were killed and around 30 others injured. In fresh shootouts by Militants Eight CRPF men were killed and 22 others were injured in an attack in Pampore of South Kashmir. Following Pampore attack reports surfaced in some sections of National Media said that around 60 Pakistan Based Fidayeen of Banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) are in Kashmir waiting to carry out attacks on security forces. Reports are making rounds that these Fidayeen have crossed over this side of Line of control (LOC) recently during back to back infiltration attempts launched by Militants from Pakistan side via North of Kashmir. |
