JAMMU, July 1: Heavy rains with thunderstorm today ended the dry spell and brought respite from the week-long humid conditions in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Dark clouds hovered around the city of temples this evening, followed by thunderstorm and finally heavy rains lashed the plains. Heavy rains lasted for around 20 minutes, but the showers continued later. The cool breeze thereafter not only ended the dry spell started after pre-monsoon showers, but also brought respite from the unbearable humid conditions. "Though the temperature fluctuated between 36 to 38 degrees in the past one week, but humidity was above 90," said the weatherman. He said with today's spell of rainfall, the showers will lash the plains of Jammu and hilly belts also, as monsoon has already hit the state 10 days earlier from its scheduled period. Meanwhile, trees got uprooted and power supply was snapped due to damaged electric poles, because of storm. |
