Dissent brews over continued suspension of internet services

Kishtwar, July 21: The unwarranted ban on internet services in state of Jammu and Kashmir including Jammu Division will continue till the situation improved in the state that is presently witnessing unrest post killing of HM militant Burhan Wani.
The official sources informed the ET that government had decided not to lift the internet ban in the state till the normalcy was restored adding that the officials at the helm of the affairs didn't want to take any risk as the government feels that social media could be misused to aggravate the situation further.
"Militant organizations like LeT and HM commanders sitting across the border are very much active on social media and have left no stone unturned in adding fuel to fire in state of Jammu and Kashmir" said government officials wishing anonymity.
The ban on internet had badly hit the business community as well as the students community and unemployed youths who could not apply for various online jobs across the globe since the government shutdown the services.
While talking to ET, a businessman Sudesh Kumar said that due to ban on internet services, their business suffered badly.
Another youth Daljeet Parihar turned the ban on internet as unwarranted added that when Jammu Division is peaceful, the government should allow internet services without any further delay. He said that due to ban on internet, their is choas and confusion among the people with regard to prevailing situation in valley as well as in Jammu Division.
Another businessman Kuldeep Singh running Computers shop said that his business had suffered badly due to non availability of internet services. He said that hundreds of students had submitted documents and relevant details at his shop for online application for jobs as well as for admissions to various sources.
The students also rued the ban on internet added that they also suffered in their studies.
"Internet is a great help in our studies, we get maximum help in getting best study material from online web portals; but due to internet blockade--- everything comes to stand still" said Hanan Malik added that banning internet for too long is unjustified and urged upon the government officials to bring an end to internet blockade.
Arif Munshi, a medical shop owner said that he used to transfer money to various medical houses online through mobile internet banking, but due to blockade of internet since last 13 days, he faces lot of problem.
"Let internet function--- it will help the government to conveyed its peace massage to people at the time when people are protesting on roads and it is only mobile phones which every person carried under every circumstances" said Nayeem.
