Oops! Orders reopening of schools, before lifting of curfew
Birbal again leaves Govt red-faced

Early Times Report
srinagar, July 21: Resentment is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party led government against Education Minister and Government spokesman Naeem Akhter, who in the latest, left the coalition red-faced by announcing reopening of schools before lifting of 13-day curfew in restive Kashmir.
The education department last evening announced that schools would reopen in four districts in the first phase from July 21. However the orders instantly drew flak with people and political parties who said that how could schools be reopened before lifting of curfew? Today even police snubbed the orders of the Education Minister stating that there would be no relaxation in the curfew.
A senior official said it was disgusting that the Education Minister was taking unilateral decisions without taking the concerned into confidence. "At least the government should have taken a nod from police before letting schools open," said a retired police official. He said it was for the first time in his life that he came across the news that schools would be thrown open in curfew.
The PDP leader said the Education minister wants to prove that only he knows how to restore normalcy in Kashmir but that in doing so he has put the credibility of the party at stake.
"His moves have only put the government to embarrassment. This is intolerable. How can an inexperienced man continue to take a political party for a ride?" said a PDP leader adding that the matter was discussed with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti this afternoon after the all party meeting here.
"We have expressed our reservations over his misadventures which have been furthering our woes than brining in any respite," a PDP leader said.
Earlier this week the government spokesman remained in controversy for having imposed ban on media in Kashmir. The controversy was subsequently ended after personal intervention of CM's political advisor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, who picked up the issue with Mehbooba Mufti. She subsequently held deliberations with media persons to end the deadlock.
Earlier this month, when the crises erupted in Kashmir in the wake of killing of militant commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani, Naeem had staged a walkout from a press conference without replying to media queries leaving the journalist fraternity annoyed.
