Gulmarg Gandola being used to carry construction material | Kongdoori park work allegedly allotted without tender | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 21: Taking advantage of hartals and curfew in the valley, a restaurant owner, who has allegedly been allotted the work of development of a park at Kongdoori without following the proper procedure of floating a tender for any government work, is said to be transporting construction material 'unlawfully' in the Gulmarg Gandola. The development of a park at Kongdoori had been allotted to a blue-eyed restaurant owner without inviting tenders, official sources alleged. Sources alleged that work on construction and development of public park at Kongdoori, Gulmarg, began almost ten days back. Sources alleged that for the last five days, the contractor was using the gandola to carry construction material like sand and cement to Kongdoori. Pertinent to mention that the state high court last year banned all the constructions at the famous ski resort of Gulmarg and directed the government to transfer a Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) official for failing to check illegal activities. The court order had come following the reports of illegal construction in the garb of minor repairs and without proper permission from the authorities. "The Deputy Commissioner as also SSP, Baramulla, and GDA shall forthwith enforce the above direction and ensure no construction activity is undertaken at Gulmarg till further orders from the court," reads the high court order. "Inspite of the high court order, construction work is on and that too at Kongdoori which is an environmentally fragile zone. It is so sad that Gandola is being used to carry construction material and above all the work is allotted without inviting tenders," Mushtaq Khan, an NGO worker, alleged and added that if all this was true, government must take action against the CCC management. |
