Modi Govt likely to ignore 2010 interlocutors report | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 26: The Union Home Ministry is unlikely to go by the report of the interlocutors which was submitted by the three-member committee formed after the violent summer of the 2010. The ministry can at the best give a cursory glance at its recommendations on the restricted use of non-lethal weapons. "There is no need to study the report of interlocutors which were appointed by the then Home Minister P Chidambaram. It has not suggested anything which the government of India doesn't know. Chidambram was not a rooted politician and his report was just an exercise to save his friend Omar Abdullah," said a senior officer. The Kashmir based journalist had asked the Home Minister Rajnath Singh at press conference in Srinagar recently whether the government would study the recommendations to which the Minister replied rather grudgingly. The Modi government holds the line that Kashmir issue hasn't been handled with properly by previous governments and many vested interests have fueled it for personal interests. "We are starting a new approach on Kashmir and it's for this reason, that Pakistan, which had been totally sidelined has fomented trouble and the Kashmir Day was observed there after about two-decade and a terrorist was called a martyr. It shows how Pakistan is feeling the pinch . We expect much more trouble but it will not dissuade us from our line," said the officer. The part of the new Kashmir policy is to get more involved in the youth affairs of Kashmir. A special recruitment especially for the paramilitary forces is on cards and also to get them out of the Kashmir. "The new approach would deal with the youth first. It will aim to wean them away from the separatists. Many things are on the cards which are beyond cosmetic approach of appointing interlocutors," said the officer. |
