Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 2: First Additional Sessions Judge M A Chowdhary today rejected the bail application of two transborder narco-smugglers. Sukh Chain Singh and Satinder Singh, both brothers, were arrested by NCB along with 2 kg heroin and Rs 1 lakh in cash. After hearing both the sides, the judge observed that epidemic of drugs in young generation had assumed alarming dimensions in India. "Drug addiction causes immense human distress and the illegal production and distribution of drugs have spawned crime and violence worldwide. No part of the world is free from the curse of drug trafficking and drug addiction. Millions of drug addicts all over the world are leading miserable lives, between life and death. Drug abuse is a complex phenomenon, which has various social, cultural, biological, geographical, historical and economic aspects. Drug abuse has led to a detrimental impact on the society. It has led to increase in the crime rate. With most drug users being in the productive age, the loss in terms of human potential is incalculable, causing damage to physical psychological, moral and intellectual growth," he said. With these observations, the court rejcted the bail applications of the accused. |
