Early Times Report jammu, Aug 2: At least half a dozen persons, known in police circles as 'settlement kings', are alleged to be charging huge amounts of money from people to settle their 'disputes' by bribing police. The lion's share of the money was being allegedly shared by them with the concerned police officers, police sources alleged. "Four of the settlement kings have a great influence in police department. They belong to Purani Mandi, Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Talab Tillo areas," sources informed. "They themselves approach the parties and then strike the deal with them to settle their matters with police. The money thus charged from the parties is shared by them with the concerned police officers," sources alleged. They were so thick with most of the officers in police department that they had an 'unrestricted' entry into their offices and residences. Many police officers had stored their mobile phone numbers in the contact list of their cellphones as 'settlement king', sources said. Apart from them, some settlement kings were also active in revenue department and other government departments. "They charge from people to get site plans of their buildings prepared from the concerned departments and get their revenue matters settled," sources alleged. |
