Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 2: As the unrest continues in Kashmir the Civil Secretariat in summer capital of the state wears a deserted look.
According to sources despite carrying a posse of security men most of the ministers of PDP- BJP government have abandoned Kashmir and are spending quality time with their families after the unrest gripped valley following the recent attacks on some PDP legislators in the past few days
The absence of ministers in the civil secretariat has brought the day to day governance to halt resulting in thin attendance of employees.
Sources said not only the BJP ministers but PDP ministers have gone into hiding leaving valley and are staying in Jammu instead of making efforts to reach out to the people to calm down the situation.
While the BJP ministers also skip the Civil Secretariat and remain busy in touring their constituencies in Jammu.
Earlier, the BJP has directed its ministers and members to reach Kashmir and make efforts for restoration of normalcy in the region.
"Some senior leaders of the party including State General Secretaries Ashok Koul, Dr Narinder Singh and the party ministers have also been instructed to rush to Kashmir to supplement the efforts of the administration to bring back normalcy by working in coordination with the party workers at ground level," a Senior BJP leader said.
Sources said the absence of ministers has generated a lot of public outcry as the people visiting Civil Secretariat from far flung areas pursuing their routine works and files return without any result in the evening.
A visitor at civil secretariat said "For the past one week I have been unable to meet minister sahib while his office people have failed to say when he would be available. I have come from Kistwar and hired a room in hotel I don't have much money left in my pocket," he said.
A delegation of people from Rajouri who wish to seek redressal of problems in their area said that they have been waiting since 11 am in the morning we were allowed at 2 pm but the concerned minister is not present in his office.
"While the Kashmir is on boil these Ministers should have taken more care of people's grievances and cleared the pending files but they don't," they said.
Official sources said most of the secretariat employees from Jammu have not reported for duties after Eid. Even most of the KAS officers from the region have not joined duties after unrest gripped Kashmir while for most of the staffers who attend the Civil Secretariat are seen gossiping in their offices.
A senior opposition leader said these ministers and MLAs had a greater role to play but didn't make any efforts to calm down the situation and are hiding in their houses rather than addressing the grievances and problems of people in their offices this shows the seriousness of the government towards the common people," he said.
