JAMMU, August 06: Four sport climbers of the state, Shivani Charak, Aman Dogra, Mrityunjay Sharma and Asma Gul along with coach, Shashi Kant today left for Delhi to take part in final phase of coaching camp at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) prior to the selection for the Indian team heading for the Asian Youth Championship to be held at Tehran in Iran from September, 27.
The coaching camp is being sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. During the 10-day coaching at international standard climbing walls at IMF, these climbers would learn the finer nuances of the game under the watchful eye of national coaches before participating in the selection trials for the national team from 17th to August 22 at the same venue.
Earlier, Delhi bound climbers were given an emotional send off by climbers and staff of Sprawling Buds School, where these climbers had been toiling really hard to improve their game for the last couple of weeks.
Arti Sharma, Director of the school, while wishing them all the best extolled them for their focus and hard work and hoped that all the state climbers would find a place in the national team. The school would continue to render all possible help to Mountaineering Association of J&K for the promotion of the game, she added.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included the secretary and joint secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria respectively and another Director of the school, Rahul Sharma.
It may be mentioned here that two climbers of J&K Aman Dogra and Shivani Charak, both national speed climbing champions, were selected by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the apex body for adventure sports in India, for the selection camp for Indian team while two other talented national climbers of J&K, Asma Gul and Mrityunjay Sharma were nominated by IMF North Zone Committee, New Delhi for the selection camp.
