Govt to counter Kashmir unrest through SPO jobs | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 6: In a bid to counter ongoing unrest in Kashmir, which has claimed over 50 lives and left over 300 wounded, the government has played a trump card by offering youth jobs of Special Police Official (SPO)s in the Jammu and Kashmir Police. A notification in this regard has formally been posted on the official website of Jammu and Kashmir Police jkpolice.gov.in seeking applications from the youth between the age group and 18 to 28 years. Sources said a decision in this regard was taken after a meeting with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Mufti who is also the Home Minister while senior ministers including Naeem Akhter are also privy to the nod to decision. A former police official close to the Peoples Democratic Party led government is also understood to have backed the idea. “This is the best way of taming the youth and getting them back to mainstream and to prevent any further indoctrination of theirs,” said a source in know of the matter. Sources said it would help to kill two birds with a stone. “On one hand unemployment will be overcome whereas on the other hand unrest will be tackled,” said a PDP leader, asking not to be named. Officials said it will meet the “emerging requirements in different fields of policing including tourism, traffic regulation and disaster management operations.” The engagement is to be restricted to native districts and shall be made on the recommendations of Selection Committees headed by the concerned Deputy Commissioners, an official statement said on Saturday. The applicants have been asked to submit their prescribed application forms in the office of their concerned DC offices from August 10 to August 25, 2016. The selected candidates will have to undergo training at respective district headquarters for which modalities and schedule would be worked out later on.
