Kashmir unrest divides BJP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 6: Serious differences have come to the fore in BJP over how to deal with the present situation in the Kashmir and some parts of Jammu province. Sources told Early Times that at the Core Group meeting of the party which was held at Government Guest House here this morning, there was a vertical division among party leaders as some of them demanded strong action against those who are raising pro-Pakistan slogans in Kashmir and some parts of Jammu province. Credible sources said that when couple of leaders gave the idea of adopting soft approach towards stone pelters and other anti-national elements active in the Valley and other areas, a group within the Core Group countered those leaders and alleged that instead of parroting ideas of party ministers in the government, it is better to assess ground situation which is deteriorating with every passing day. Credible sources said that some leaders, at the behest of party ministers, floated the idea that it is better to ignore those who are raising anti-India slogans. This group was speaking on the directions of some ministers, who argued that ignoring these anti-India forces is the only way. But another group strongly opposed this idea and demanded that those raising anti-India slogans, anywhere in the country, would be dealt with an iron hand. They also warned that adopting soft approach towards stone pelters and anti-India elements of other areas of the State would not go well among party workers and supporters in the State. A leader in the Core Group narrated example of Kishtwar where some people had openly raised anti-India slogans but no action was taken because authorities were asked not to touch these people. Credible sources further said that Core Group also discussed statements of some party ministers and told leaders that such foolish statements had damaged the party and demoralized the workers. Core Group members urged the ministers not to blindly toe line of coalition partner and use their own minds while giving statements on the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.
