Govt stops following Hurriyat calendar for issuing of curfew passes | Issues fresh passes with extended validity | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 6: Alarmed by Early Times report that the government was issuing curfew passes in Kashmir in accordance with the protest calendar announced by the Hurriyat Conference, the authorities on Saturday started issuance of fresh curfew passes. Unlike the previous passes, now onwards the curfew passes have validity till curfew or restrictions prevail in the Valley. Sources said the government top brass had taken a serious note of the blunder on the part of the administration to issue curfew passes in accordance with the “mood of the separatist leaders.” Sources said the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmed Khan was called to the Civil Secretariat to explain his position over “major lapse in the issuance of curfew passes putting the government to embarrassment.” Baseer instantly flashed a message to all the district magistrates of Kashmir province to rectify the “mistake” and to issue fresh passes. A senior official said since August 6, all fresh curfew passes have extended validity. “It can be used till the unrest prevails,” he said. Meanwhile the people who had to visit the offices of district Commissioners after every few days to get a fresh curfew passes have taken a sigh of relief.
