Orthopaedician in Sarwal hospital wants all X rays done from his chosen Diagnostic centre | | Abodh Sharma | 8/7/2016 10:36:24 AM |
| Early Times report Jammu , Aug 6 Despite tall claims of the Government on regulating the erring health sector of the state which has been marred by unholy nexus between doctors and pharmaceutical companies, the mafia has thrived over the years, putting poor patients in deep hole. In one such incident, a doctor posted at Government hospital Sarwal in the winter capital has been openly referring the patients to a particular diagnostic centre of the city to get their X rays done, even as the hospital has a fully functional X ray unit. Patients have openly resented the unwarranted referrals of the Orthopaedician to a particular diagnostic centre for obvious reasons and have decided to file a complaint against the said doctor with the Minister concerned. “Every next patient is referred to the said centre to get the X ray done despite there being a X ray unit in the hospital” said Siddharth Gupta, an attendant, alleging, “the criminal nexus is too obvious as the doctor emphasizes that the X ray should be done from this particular clinic only”. “On inquiring about the status of the X ray unit of the hospital, I found that it was functional” he added. His allegations were endorsed by another patient who too was advised by the Ortho to get his X ray done from the same centre. ET verified the claims of the patients and their attendants and confirmed from another senior doctor of the hospital, who on the condition of anonymity revealed that the X ray unit in the hospital was functional. Sources disclosed that the nexus is deep rooted and many other doctors are fleecing the poor patients by advising them to go to selected diagnostic centers where they have their commissions fixed. “The menace is not restricted to the X rays alone, the commission mafia has its roots spread deep and wide and patients are prevailed upon to purchase costly implants, medicines and get their tests done from selected shops and centers which pay handsome cuts to the doctors” said a junior doctor adding, “referring patients from government hospital to private centers even when hospital has these facilities available free of cost, is not only unethical, but criminal and should be dealt with sternly”.
